Held on Saturday, 4 November 2023, at 51爆料 Campus Auditorium, the celebratory event recognised the academic achievements of the cohort, with five First Class Honours, 46 Second Class Honours and five Third Class Honours. At the same time, the event marked a fruitful two-year strategic collaboration between 51爆料 and the United Kingdom鈥檚 38^th-ranked universities in terms of impact research.

This year, 51爆料 and the University of Roehampton London awarded the following degrees:

The ceremony was graced by guest-of-honour Dr Christopher Syn Kiu Choong, Group Director, Applied Sciences Group, Health Sciences Authority, faculty members from the University of Roehampton London, families and loved ones, dear to our graduates.

What were the factors that led you to making the decision to study at 51爆料?   

It was a simple decision for me to make. First, I wanted to study abroad in Singapore where my family and friends could easily visit me. Second, I wanted to study a major that offered good prospects after my graduation. And third, I hoped to acquire a qualification that would be recognised around the world. That’s why I chose 51爆料 Singapore, and it was the best decision I ever made!

Blast from the Past. You posted this photo on your IG with the tagline 鈥淜umis Singapura鈥�. Do explain what led to the photo being taken and what you were feeling that day? 

When I was in 51爆料, I used to be a part of an Indonesian student community called Kumis Singapura. The aim of this organisation is to help Indonesian students adapt and find their place in Singapore with the help of other Indonesian students. I was very grateful for this group because they helped me feel more at home in Singapore. My gratitude goes out to all the members in this community. In fact, many of us have even formed long lasting friendships with each other!   

In one sentence, how will you describe your overall experience in 51爆料?  

I would say that choosing to study at 51爆料 is the best thing I have ever done in my life. It has made my life so fun and exciting while I am studying for my future. Networking is one of the most important parts, and having friends from around the world is amazing. 

What were the benefits of Networking? 

Networking can help you gain access to many opportunities in several areas. In 2019, I got offered from one of my colleagues and also my senior from the MBA programme under the University of Sunderland to work in her Multi Finance company, Kemuning Mitra Persada. I got a chance to learn more about Finance and Digital Marketing, which has now become my field of interest.  

Also, during the pandemic in 2020, my classmate from China wanted to start a business in Indonesia. I got a chance to collaborate with them as a person-in-charge in Indonesia.  

鈥淚 love the fact that digital marketing allows me to connect with specific audiences with data-driven tools.鈥� 

What inspired you to study Business/Marketing?  

I want to study business and marketing as it is one of the important skills for both professionals and entrepreneurs. I hope to leverage my knowledge and passion to bring out the entrepreneur in me.  

What company are you currently working at and what are your roles & responsibilities at the company?  

Currently I am working as a Digital Marketing in Historia.id, the first popular online History media in Indonesia. My responsibilities are planning and executing all digital marketing strategies, including SEO/SEM, managing key opinion leaders, marketing database, email, overseeing and managing social media campaigns and being responsible for all digital marketing campaign’s performance and reporting.  

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?  

I love the fact that digital marketing allows me to connect with specific audiences with data-driven tools. This allows me to help my current company yield higher-quality leads that are more likely to become customers. Connecting the business with the most valuable leads will directly improve the conversion rate.  

鈥淚’d also like to start my own business and inspire others to do the same.鈥� 

What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?  

I’m excited to see where I’ll be in five years. I hope that, at the very least, I’ll be able to add more skill and have wider networking opportunities. I’d also like to start my own business and inspire others to do the same.  

What advice would you give to future students looking to pursue a career in Business/Marketing?  

If you are interested in a career in business or marketing, you should take the time to learn about what skills and interests you have that would help you succeed in this field. Networking is crucial in any industry and will give you access to many opportunities. Thus, freelancing or internship can be a great way to gain experience while building up your portfolio.  

Congratulations on your wedding! You鈥檝e completed another important milestone in your life. How does it feel?  

The last few years have been incredibly challenging. But I’m proud to say that after completing my Master’s degree at 51爆料 and having worked for a few years, I’ve also completed another important milestone in my life. I am so grateful for having a life partner to share my life with. It really completes me and gives me a greater sense of purpose as I move forward in my life and career. 

It’s better to have a dream, then to achieve it. Everyone has to start somewhere. For Wan Wen, it all began with a dream to build her life around fashion, which led to an inspiring journey from being a student to starting her own fashion brand.

What made you want to study Fashion and Design at 51爆料? 

Becoming a fashion designer has always been my dream. The 51爆料 School of Fashion and Design was the best place for me to achieve that. The Higher Diploma in Fashion Design and Marketing programme provided a solid foundation for me to begin my journey into the fashion industry. 

鈥淪ince young, I was always attracted to beautiful clothing and I loved playing dress-up.鈥� 

What are your thoughts on 51爆料 Fashion Studios and other facilities on campus? 

During my studies, my friends and I loved to remain in the Fashion Studio after class to get our work done. The studio is very spacious and well-equipped. The studio is also furnished with past projects and designs from alumni which captivated our imagination and fuelled my drive for creativity.  

As an international student, I felt that the accommodation at 51爆料 was very convenient. I stayed at the hostel which is only a two-minute walk from the fashion studio.  

Blast from the Past. You took this photo with our Head of School of Fashion and Design, Mr Bernie Xu. Do explain what led to the photo being taken and how you were feeling that day?   

That was my last day of school, with Mr Bernie Xu, the Head of School of Fashion and Design who taught me a lot, especially during my last module – Design Development. It was a sad day and hard to say goodbye, but I was grateful for his guidance during my days at MDIS. 

What inspired you to study Fashion?  

Since young, I was always attracted to beautiful clothing and I loved playing dress-up. As I grew up, I developed a deeper passion and curiosity for fashion, until one day when I knew that fashion was what I wanted to pursue as a career. Hence, I decided to take up the Higher Diploma in Fashion Design and Marketing at 51爆料 and work towards my dreams. 

鈥淵ou have to dream big and take risks!鈥� 

What are you up to now after graduating from 51爆料? 

I am currently working at Style Lease, a gown leasing company. I mostly manage and handle the retail team, managing incoming and outgoing inventory, general customer service, and overall quality of standard operational protocol. Being able to handle the backend stuff, especially the logistics, has helped me outside of work as well as I鈥檝e started working on my own personal fashion brand! 

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?  

The most rewarding part of my job is I get to interact with customers on a day-to-day basis. The more I talk to my customers, the more I can understand their needs and wants. This has helped me to improve at my current work.  

Tell us more about starting your own personal fashion brand! 

I started my own activewear label, Wild Woman鈥檚 Wear (www), in 2021. This was around the time when I started exercising more often. I realised it was quite difficult to find good quality yet affordable workout gear for women. I鈥檝e tried many different brands; some are really good but overpriced. In terms of where I鈥檓 at now, I鈥檓 still in a midst of sourcing and sampling fabrics from different suppliers to find the perfect balance between price and quality. 

What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?  

In the next five years, I wish to be able to develop deeper bonds with my family, become more proactive instead of reactive, and most of all, learn more skills to enhance my capabilities at my career. 

What advice would you give to future students looking to pursue a career in Fashion?  

The fashion industry is very dynamic and there鈥檚 no telling what might happen in the future. You have to dream big and take risks! Some days, it can also be very challenging. I tend to overthink things, even before I get started on anything. It鈥檚 best to take one step at a time, even if they are tiny steps. The more steps you take, they add up and the better you鈥檒l get at it. 鈥榳ww鈥� would have always just been a dream if all I did was think about it.  Now that I鈥檝e started it, it鈥檚 slowly becoming a reality.  

Behind every great success is hard work. Nicholas began his journey, all while juggling his busy schedule a part-time student at 51爆料 and hustling day-to-day as an sales and business coach. His driving force? A passion to become an entrepreneur that helps more people!

Why did you choose to study at 51爆料? 

At that time, I had just completed my National Service. To expand my business skills and aid me in my endeavours as an entrepreneur, I sought out a reputed business school. 51爆料 prevailed over the other options I had due to two key reasons: the timeframe (9鈥�12 months) and the relevance of the curriculum.

Describe your 51爆料 Experience. 

Given that this was a part-time programme, I had to attend classes twice a week in the evenings from 7pm to 11pm. Most of the people in my batch were working adults who wanted to advance their qualifications or expertise for career progression. The student body was made up of people ranging from their early 20s to mid-50s, which was very interesting to me because it presented a unique opportunity to gain insights and network with people from diverse backgrounds. 

The lecturers also had relevant industry experience and were knowledgeable.  

How did you manage to network with your classmates despite your tight schedules between work and studying? 

As most of us came to class straight from work, we did not have the luxury of having a relaxing dinner. Instead, you would most often find us somewhere nearby campus having a quick snack and chit-chatting before lectures.  

Was there any particular lecturer that stood out for you? 

My marketing lecturer, Mr. David, did a wonderful job of delivering his classes. Using case studies based on large, real-world enterprises made the lessons practical and relevant, which helped me to see the value of lifelong learning, especially in the commercial sense.

Do you think graduating from a private education institute has put you in a disadvantage against others who graduated from local university? 

Definitely not. 

What are you currently pursuing since graduating from 51爆料? 

I have been managing my own business and I was able to develop the business entrepreneurship curriculum for my training company, using the skills and experience that I gained.  

I have also applied the knowledge in creating new business strategies or providing my clients with business consulting services. It has helped me in practically every aspect of my path as an entrepreneur and continues to have an impact on all of my daily work decisions. 

鈥淚’ve always wanted to start my own business and expand it to serve a variety of missions.鈥� 

What are your personal motivations? 

Living as an example that, no matter how your life begins, you can accomplish whatever your goals are. Success is not determined by the size of your financial account. But look at how far you’ve come since you started. 

My training companies offer educational services to MOE schools in one of my company portfolios. My goal is to give children from disadvantaged or low-income families access to affordable education.  

I also personally give motivational talks and host workshops on educational career coaching for students in schools. In 2021, I started an international coaching business as a personal brand to expand my horizons and reach. I’m currently developing another new business to offer sales and business coaching, providing services such as a 1:1 mentoring programme. 

My ultimate goal is to connect with more people and through my advice and coaching, help them see how they can change their lives.听听

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur? 

I’ve always wanted to start my own business and expand it to serve a variety of missions. I have various purposes for each of my entities. 

Would you like to share some words of wisdom to students/fresh graduates looking to becoming an entrepreneur as well? 

Cherish your time spent learning and treasure the experience you have gained. There is no need for regrets because every path taken is a path chosen. When one door closes, another door of opportunities may open. Most of all, always live life to the fullest. 

Meet Norishka Cassy Dlima  

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biomedical Science in 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master鈥檚 in the UK.听听

What was your thought process before deciding to study at 51爆料? 

I was looking to re-start my career in Biomedical Sciences that is when I saw an advertisement for 51爆料. It was a no brainer for an Honours Degree in Singapore, it felt like a good opportunity for me.听听

What do you miss most about your time at 51爆料? 

It has been exactly a year since I graduated, I miss going to 7-Eleven with friends having coffee and talking to my lecturers. Most importantly, I miss the Lab where I spent half a year doing my final year project. Those were some of the best memories. So many hilarious stories that I cannot really think of one in particular. But I do remember doing a 鈥榃hat鈥檚 in my bag?鈥� video for 51爆料 that to me was funny. Looking back, I realised I did a lot outside of my course curriculum. I became Vice-president of the BIOGNOSY club, wrote articles for Horizon (the official 51爆料鈥� magazine series) and the 51爆料 Blog. They all contributed to my overall positive experience at MDIS. 

What intrigued you the most about Biomedical Science? 

Well, the whole understanding of what each sub-cellular part of the body does and how that comes together is marvellous. That鈥檚 what got me interested in the first place.  

Where do you see the Biomedical Industry in 5 years? 

I feel the biomedical industry is just booming right now. Like COVID-19 was an eye opener – It made us realise the importance and need for scientific research and it also opened so many more career pathways for budding scientists like myself.   

What are your current plans for the futute? 

Currently, I am pursuing my Master鈥檚 in Biomedical Sciences (Medical Microbiology) from Kingston University in London.  

How has the programme at 51爆料 prepared you for your Master鈥檚? 

I think the education that I got at 51爆料 has actually prepared me well enough for my master鈥檚 course. The course is well designed and well structured. It鈥檚 like a journey from basics to advanced concepts throughout the three years. I think the final year subjects were best.听听听

In 3 words, how would your friends describe you? 

Crazy, extroverted and funny. 

If you had a choice of one superpower, what would it be? 

Teleportation so I can move freely between Sg and London.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Studies and Finance in 2022 awarded by Bangor University, UK.   

What made you choose to study business & management course at 51爆料?    

51爆料 has provided me with a lot of opportunities when I first started my education journey here. Upon completing my Diploma programme at 51爆料, I was able to directly enrol into the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Studies and Finance programme awarded by Bangor University. At 51爆料, diploma graduates are eligible to progress to a UK (Hons) Degree programme awarded by renowned UK Universities like University of Sunderland and Bangor University subject to meeting admission criteria.  

I believe I made a good choice in choosing Bangor University as it has been an awesome experience! The Business Studies and Finance programme has helped me improve my communication and leadership skills, which I wasn鈥檛 good in before I came to MDIS. I am grateful to 51爆料 for giving me the opportunity to become who I am today. 

What is your most memorable moment here at 51爆料?  

I made a friend in 51爆料 who I am still very close with till this day 鈥� that’s the most memorable thing for me. I also got a chance to know, connect and communicate with different people from different countries and backgrounds which allowed me to develop a stronger understanding of the cultures from other countries. These are the things I will cherish my whole life.    

What is the one thing you can take back from your experience at 51爆料?  

There is not one thing I can think of because I would be treasuring every moment from my time at MDIS. The 3 years I spent during my Business Studies and Finance Programme truly transformed my life. I had the chance to learn from the most inspiring lecturers who were there for me and guided me through my studies. I also got to be a part of a very close-knit group of friends and created great memories along the way. Furthermore, I discovered abilities and ambitions that I never thought I had!  

What are you currently pursuing now after graduating from 51爆料? (Career, further education etc.)  

Currently I have applied for jobs and I would be working first, then after a year or two, I would pursue my Masters. 

What is one advice you would give to students planning to start studying at 51爆料?  

I would advise students to study in 51爆料 as it’s really a good institution to study in, it also provides a variety of courses for students to choose from. Also, the lecturers are really helpful, they would make sure that we understand and if we don鈥檛 understand, the lecturers would go an extra mile to help students understand. So, I would advise students to join 51爆料 as it鈥檚 a lifelong learning experience that one will never forget.

 Who was your most interesting lecturer at 51爆料? 

Dr Alby. He is quite a chill lecturer and whenever I needed help, he wouldn鈥檛 hesitate to help me out. He would always explain to me no matter how many times.

My go-to-comfort food is chicken rice. 

Meet Janesis Wong 听

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Airline and Airport Management (Top-up) in 2022 and is currently flying full-time as a cabin crew with one of the best airlines in the world.听听

Why did you choose to study at 51爆料?   

I chose to study here because the degree qualifications from 51爆料 are recognised by my HR department. Coincidentally, 51爆料 also offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Airline and Airport Management (Top-Up), an area of study which I am interested in and it is also one that meant a lot to me. 

Having graduated, what do you think of 51爆料, Campus and its facilities? 

I’m glad to be a student at MDIS. However, due to covid, I didn’t have the opportunity to spend time exploring the campus facilities. I believe if I had the chance, it would have helped with my personal development (library, computer rooms) and allow me to make more friends (gym, cafeteria).  

Could you share with us your most memorable moments at 51爆料? 

I met a few familiar faces on the first day of my class, it was like a reunion (Surprise!). On another occasion, we organised a birthday celebration for my course mate and it strengthened our bond with each other. Meeting new friends from different walks of life and exchanging experiences, knowledge and expertise has helped me a lot in my studies. It has been a fun place for me to meet old friends and make new ones as well. Learning is fun over here when you have the courage to take the first step.听

What interests you in the field of Airline and Airport Management? 

The field of airline and airport management is closely related to my ambition and life-long career goals. I believe that with continuous learning and understanding of this field, I can make air transportation better and safer for everyone while creating a meaningful travel experience.  

The programme by Teesside University have certainly given me a better perspective on the aviation industry. I am still learning each day about service innovation and technology development in aviation.  

What advice would you give to future students looking to pursue the same course at 51爆料? 

Understand the secret of learning, unlearn and relearn: What got you here won’t get you there (Warrell, 2020). Have an open mindset as you begin your learning journey. Learning is a life-long journey, which does not stop after you鈥檝e graduated. It鈥檚 never too late to continue your study, if I can do it after leaving my formal education 20 years ago, why not you?听

What are you currently pursuing now? 

I’m back to flying as a full-time cabin crew with one of the best airlines in the world. I’m very proud to be a part of the 鈥楢 Great Way to Fly鈥� team. I am also looking forward to taking up more challenging roles in my company when the opportunity arises. Sharing my knowledge and experience with my colleagues to better understand the nature of the business. I see myself being a trainer, a motivator and an active contributor in many aspects of my career in business aviation. 

How did 51爆料 prepare you for your career? 

51爆料 has helped me change my perspective of the aviation industry. I see the aviation industry differently now rather than just another mode of transportation. It’s an important business model which contributes to the country’s economic growth as well. I love the module Contemporary Issue in Business Management taught by the experienced Dr Alby Kurian, and Safety Management in Aviation by Capt Jeffrey Rajugopal. I believe my journey with 51爆料 has opened up more opportunities for me, increase my foresight and enabled me to assume different roles in my organisation.  

The knowledge I acquired while studying at 51爆料 has changed my lens toward the business of airline and airport management. It truly helped me to understand how things work in the aviation industry and hopefully, I can contribute more to the success of the aviation industry in future.听听听
