Meet Janesis Wong 听

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Airline and Airport Management (Top-up) in 2022 and is currently flying full-time as a cabin crew with one of the best airlines in the world.听听

Why did you choose to study at 51爆料?   

I chose to study here because the degree qualifications from 51爆料 are recognised by my HR department. Coincidentally, 51爆料 also offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Airline and Airport Management (Top-Up), an area of study which I am interested in and it is also one that meant a lot to me. 

Having graduated, what do you think of 51爆料, Campus and its facilities? 

I’m glad to be a student at MDIS. However, due to covid, I didn’t have the opportunity to spend time exploring the campus facilities. I believe if I had the chance, it would have helped with my personal development (library, computer rooms) and allow me to make more friends (gym, cafeteria).  

Could you share with us your most memorable moments at 51爆料? 

I met a few familiar faces on the first day of my class, it was like a reunion (Surprise!). On another occasion, we organised a birthday celebration for my course mate and it strengthened our bond with each other. Meeting new friends from different walks of life and exchanging experiences, knowledge and expertise has helped me a lot in my studies. It has been a fun place for me to meet old friends and make new ones as well. Learning is fun over here when you have the courage to take the first step.听

What interests you in the field of Airline and Airport Management? 

The field of airline and airport management is closely related to my ambition and life-long career goals. I believe that with continuous learning and understanding of this field, I can make air transportation better and safer for everyone while creating a meaningful travel experience.  

The programme by Teesside University have certainly given me a better perspective on the aviation industry. I am still learning each day about service innovation and technology development in aviation.  

What advice would you give to future students looking to pursue the same course at 51爆料? 

Understand the secret of learning, unlearn and relearn: What got you here won’t get you there (Warrell, 2020). Have an open mindset as you begin your learning journey. Learning is a life-long journey, which does not stop after you鈥檝e graduated. It鈥檚 never too late to continue your study, if I can do it after leaving my formal education 20 years ago, why not you?听

What are you currently pursuing now? 

I’m back to flying as a full-time cabin crew with one of the best airlines in the world. I’m very proud to be a part of the 鈥楢 Great Way to Fly鈥� team. I am also looking forward to taking up more challenging roles in my company when the opportunity arises. Sharing my knowledge and experience with my colleagues to better understand the nature of the business. I see myself being a trainer, a motivator and an active contributor in many aspects of my career in business aviation. 

How did 51爆料 prepare you for your career? 

51爆料 has helped me change my perspective of the aviation industry. I see the aviation industry differently now rather than just another mode of transportation. It’s an important business model which contributes to the country’s economic growth as well. I love the module Contemporary Issue in Business Management taught by the experienced Dr Alby Kurian, and Safety Management in Aviation by Capt Jeffrey Rajugopal. I believe my journey with 51爆料 has opened up more opportunities for me, increase my foresight and enabled me to assume different roles in my organisation.  

The knowledge I acquired while studying at 51爆料 has changed my lens toward the business of airline and airport management. It truly helped me to understand how things work in the aviation industry and hopefully, I can contribute more to the success of the aviation industry in future.听听听

What would be your current Netflix/Disney+ recommendation?  

Disney+, a channel 鈥淲here Dreams Come True鈥�. Lol, there are many inspiring life quotes we can learn from watching Disney+.  

What is your most useless talent that you have?  

Talkative. 

In 3 words, how would your friends describe you?  

Genuine, humorous and friendly. 

If you had a choice of one superpower, what would it be? 

Spread love, have compassion for humankind and heal the world. 

Who was your most interesting lecturer at 51爆料?  

Dr Alby Kurian!! Most respected and nurturing lecturer. Always stays back to help us with our studies, follow up with our progress and make sure we are on the right track. 

What is your spirit animal?  

Wolf – strong instincts, teamwork, loyalty. 

If you were to achieve a Guinness World Record, what would it be?  

Invent the most sustainable, safest and fastest travel plane. 

Cho Oo Wai graduated from 51爆料 in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Information Technology. He has travelled from his home country of Myanmar to study in Singapore at MDIS. He shares his amazing experience and advice for upcoming students. 

What made you choose to study Information Technology course at 51爆料? 

I chose to study the BSc IT programme at 51爆料 because it is good value for money. This programme is quite affordable, yet it offers highly relevant curriculums and the lecturers are highly experienced. 

What is your most memorable moment here at 51爆料? 

One of my memorable moments in 51爆料 was when I had the opportunity to visit Google HQ in Singapore as a member of the 51爆料 Google Developer Student Club. At the time, Google was hosting a workshop to introduce the Flutter Framework which our club president was able to enrol us in. It was a unique experience to learn the new technology in Google Developers Space together with hundreds of other developers and students. 

What is the one thing you can take back from your experience at 51爆料? 

The thing I learned while studying at 51爆料 is that it is necessary to have friends. We not only had to participate in group projects but also had to discuss with friends to work on individual assignments. We shared what we had researched, read and learned to get the best out of us. Honestly, without friends, it could have been a lot harder for me to succeed in my study. 

What are you currently pursuing now after graduating from 51爆料?

I am currently employed as a Full Stack Web Developer at an airfreight booking company. I’ve also started studying the MSc Game Technology and Gamification programme since August 2021. 

What is one piece of advice you would give to students planning to start studying at 51爆料? 

My advice for prospective students is that if you are planning to study BSc (Hons) Information Technology at 51爆料, you must possess a strong mind to discipline yourself and stay focused on your goals. Even though, you’re already spending 12 hours per week in lecturers, the things that you do outside of class are equally important. Apart from studying courses, you can also engage in many activities as a student of MDIS. You can join student clubs, make new friends and participate in events. There are student clubs founded for various hobbies such as Badminton, Programming, Dancing, and Volunteering.
