At FusionWorld, students embarked on a journey to learn about the latest science and engineering technologies and research highlights through a guided tour. As students ventured through the five thematic zones, they explored and discovered how cutting edge technologies enhanced our everyday lives and beyond.

When we first entered FusionWorld, we were greeted by the bright colours of their logo and while we made our way through the tour, we were amazed by the extraordinary innovations. Some of the innovations were Integrated Biorefinery, Speech to singing and Eyefly 3D. Integrated Biorefinery is the conversion of oil palm waste to acrylic acid that is being used in paints and super absorbent polymers for diapers. Speech to singing is an app that allows one to sing by only recording their talking voice; the app will transform the rhythm and pitch of the voice into professional-quality singing. Lastly, Eyefly 3D is a screen protector that can display 3D content in both landscape and portrait mode on any phones.

At the end of our visit to FusionWorld, we were allowed to experience some of the inventions like the Brain Computer Interface that allows one to play games by using their focus skills and the huggler that can react to one鈥檚 emotions. Lastly, we were presented with a tote bag and a badge to signify our visit to FusionWorld.

We decided to form a team to participate in the Youth Entrepreneur Competition 2018 (YEC), organised by Singapore Discovery Centre in October 2017 and started conceptualising on our business plan and products for the competition. We received a lot of support from our Advisors who spent a lot of time with us, scrutinising our business proposal and improvising on our ideas.

On 17 January 2018, we received an email, at 1.30pm that, Eat 4 Dead had made it to the finals!

Since the theme for YEC 2018 is Zombie, we adapted the concept from a popular computer game, Left 4 Dead 2.

We differentiated our product into two categories.

(1) Food and Beverage
The look and feel of our food and beverage range will resemble some zombie鈥檚 body parts, such as the skull, brain and fingers. These will include skull head pizza, molten brain lava cake, blood bag drinks and, mozzarella sticks.

(2) Merchandises (Printed T-shirts and Tote Bags)
For merchandises, we decided to have T-shirts and tote bags, printed with our very own zombie mascot design.

We look forward to competing with the other teams from different institutions for the finals at the Singapore Discovery Centre on 24th March 2018,

On the final day of the election, the Nominees presented their proposals. Each of the Nominees were given eight minutes to present followed by a question and answer (Q&A) session. The Q&A session assisted the panel in gauging the response of the Nominees and their ability to think on their feet. There were no right or wrong answers. Despite the challenges faced by the Nominees, many of them fared well in the final round of the election.

The session ended with light refreshments. The Advisors and current Exco stayed on for discussions on the votes and in identifying the suitability of each of their roles and contributions. The election announcement was released the following day.

We welcome the newly formed Exco Team and look forward to giving them the full support.

The tour was guided by their friendly staff. Participants were shown a short video clip about 鈥楽ingapore Waters鈥� and the essential importance of water. In addition, they shared Singapore鈥檚 objective in conserving and recycling water in order to have a sustainable life despite the challenges on land limitation to maintain water catchment. There are five NEWater plants which supply up to 40% of Singapore鈥檚 current water needs. NEWater is expected to meet 55% of Singapore鈥檚 future water demand by 2060.

The tour included an educational and interactive exhibition area followed by the 3-Step treatment at NEWater Plants

1. Microfiltration: Microscopic particles including some bacteria are filtered out at this stage.

2. Reverse Osmosis: Undesirable contaminants are removed here. The water at this stage is high-grade water.

3. Ultraviolet Disinfection: The water passes through ultraviolet light to ensure any remaining organisms are eradicated. Chemicals are added to restore the pH balance. NEWater is now ready for use.

At the end of guided tour, students were each given a bottle of NEWater. The tour ended with a Rain Garden Workshop. With the creative approach, students learned the functions of the rain garden and how different soil layers played a role in filtering rainwater and surface runoff. Students took home the completed mini rain garden as souvenirs.

It was a fun and enriching session where participants had the opportunity to learn how the NEWater processes recycle used water with advanced membrane technologies and ultra-violet disinfection, making water ultra-clean and safe to drink. With this technology, the nation is able to combat against the dry weather, land limitations and moving Singapore towards water sustainability.

The nominees appeared nervous, some came prepared whilst others took it in their stride. The interview segment assisted in ascertaining the genuinely interested and those willing to learn at the same time. At the end of two-day session, the interviewers selected candidates that deserved to go into the Final Round of Election.

The Final Round of Election required candidates to submit a proposal and present their paper, which assisted in assessing their language, writing and communication skills, and their thought processes. Each of them were given two weeks to submit their proposals and to present. Finally, the New Executive Committee 2018 was formed and we wish the new team the very best in carrying out their duties for the next term.

There are 3 Rounds of Election which will be held across 3 months. The First Round of Election was held on 4 December 2017. Through the Leadership Games in Round 1, the Advisors and the current Exco Committees would observed the Nominees鈥� trait personalities, skills, abilities, competencies etc.

There were 17 Nominees who had come for the Election Round 1. It started off with self-introduction follow by a Business Simulation Game. The Nominees were divided into two teams. Each team were given some random items where they had to use their creativity and imagination to form a business plan around these items. This games allowed us to gauge their team work, conflict management, creativity, presentation skill etc.

The last game was a Strategic Debate. This section would allow us to detect their critical thinking, ability to think spontaneously, aggressiveness etc. The first round of debate topic – 鈥淚s College Education worth it?鈥� and the second round of debate topic 鈥� 鈥淒o Smart Phones bring more harm than good?鈥� There were many interesting points that were brought up during the debate. Then we had a refreshment to end the night. The Advisors and the current Exco Committees stayed back for a discussion on the performance of the Nominees and should we eliminate anyone or not. The Nominees each had displayed their own strengths throughout the games. We all agreed to give all the Nominees a chance for us to get to know them better and all the Nominees went into the Second Round of Election which is the Interview.

Against the backdrop of a lovely sunset and cool atmosphere, 51爆料 Business Club (MBC) members were all set for a good time on the roof top of the Einstein Building (Block E) at 51爆料 Campus.

Some 60 students including the MBC executive committee andnew and existing members came together on 18 August to get to know one another better.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by the MBC President, Camille Chen, followed by a short introduction about MBC, its objectives, the benefits of membership and the role of the Executive Committee members of 2017/2018. A short video was screened to showcase past events and activities organised by the club. All these provided new members with insights into the purpose and activities of the club.

Then it was time for fun and games, designed to bring out the teamwork and solidarity of participants. Five team leaders were identified based on quickest response, in a fast and furious round of 鈥楺uestions & Answers鈥�. They in turn chose their team members for the interactive games themed around Superheroes.

The teamwork and team play brought out the esprit de corps in each member, and after an exciting and engaging evening of fun and games, they gathered for dinner. Prizes were given out during the course of dinner the top team and to the best-dressed Superhero.
