Held on Saturday, 4 November 2023, at 51爆料 Campus Auditorium, the celebratory event recognised the academic achievements of the cohort, with five First Class Honours, 46 Second Class Honours and five Third Class Honours. At the same time, the event marked a fruitful two-year strategic collaboration between 51爆料 and the United Kingdom鈥檚 38^th-ranked universities in terms of impact research.

This year, 51爆料 and the University of Roehampton London awarded the following degrees:

• Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition Science; and
• Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychological and Behavioural Science

The ceremony was graced by guest-of-honour Dr Christopher Syn Kiu Choong, Group Director, Applied Sciences Group, Health Sciences Authority, faculty members from the University of Roehampton London, families and loved ones, dear to our graduates.

In his congratulatory speech, Dr Syn highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and the need to evolve into an 鈥楳-person鈥�, also known as a multi-skilled professional, to stay relevant and employable in the volatile and demanding workforce.

鈥淵ou need to be the M-person with deep expertise alongside a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills that you can leverage to gaze the crystal ball, make the critical analyses, and proactively respond to what is coming. Then you get to ride the waves of change at its crest.鈥�

Professor Jean-No毛l Ezingeard, Vice Chancellor of the University of Roehampton London, graced the occasion and emphasised the value of the experiences and knowledge the graduates gained while pursuing their education at Roehampton.

The event was a testament to the resilience, growth and achievements displayed throughout the graduates’ educational journey. In addition, it was a celebration of accomplishments and the collective success of the graduating class that brought them together as a community.

The graduation ceremony was an emotional rollercoaster. Tears of joy and jubilation filled the room as the graduates met their fellow classmates, lecturers and mentors who had made a significant impact in their academic journey.

It was also a time to acknowledge the support of graduates’ families and friends, who had played an important role in their academic success. Seeing the graduates, their families and friends beam with pride as they relished the moment, was genuinely touching.

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2022, who worked tirelessly to make their dreams come true.

7. The Stroop Test
Join us as we observe the effects of 鈥渃onfusing鈥� the brain through a simple word task. Learn how our heart rate differs from this activity.

Participants are also able to view a trace of their electrocardiogram, (ECG) before & after the stroop test to understand the physiological effects of mental stress on their heart rhythm.

8. Gram Staining
Get hands on experience as we guide you through the Gram staining procedure. Be fascinated as you identify the differences in shape and organisation of bacteria with the use of microscopes.

Microscopes will also be set up for viewing example stains of plant, animal and human tissue.
Both 鈥楾he Stroop Test鈥� and 鈥楪ram Staining鈥� activities are held at Blk G, Life Sciences Lab, from 10am to 5.30pm @ 51爆料 Campus.

10. Psychoanalytic Dream Interpretation
Psychoanalytic Dream Interpretation workshop provides you basic training in decoding the meaning behind a person鈥檚 dream through the application of Psychoanalysis. Ultimately, you will be guided on how to integrate the meaning of one鈥檚 dream with his/her waking life.

11. Stress and Addictive Behaviour
No one is immune to stress; it is part of the experience of being alive. Life is full of opportunities and challenges, and we need to face the demands that life has for us. At times, we are overwhelmed by these demands. Stress, if not managed or relieved, can potentially result in distress and burnout. For some, stress can trigger addictive behaviour such as substance use, problem gambling, compulsive gaming and internet use, amongst others.

12. Robotics Connection

The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2017 is “Tobacco 鈥� a threat to development.”

This year, the 51爆料 Business Club (MBC), with the support of the 51爆料 Business School, set up a pushcart in the campus to help to create awareness of No Tobacco Day. A push car was set up and four main activities were promoted. In collaboration with Singapore Cancer Society, merchandises were sold and the proceeds given to the Cancer Society. Quizzes allowed participants to participate and be informed and aware of No Tobacco Day.

For the mobile mob, MBC had formed a team to walk around the campus top romote this event. Some of the members held huge handmade props such as cigarette butts and scythe. Lastly, the helping memo allowed students and staff to pen down their messages on memos and stick themonto boards that were provided. These messages were mainly encouragements from the students who wished to persuade and support smokers to quit smoking, or inform them of the negative effects of smoking.

The Singapore government is discouraging people from smoking such as extending the ban on smoking to all parks in Singapore. The Health Promotion Board has a program on 鈥業 Quit 28-Day Countdown鈥� to support individuals who want to take the first step towards a smoke-free life. Tobacco consumption not only poses negative health effects, it also threatens development in economic growth, health, education, poverty and the environment. Apart from the policies implemented by the government, each individual can also play a part in stamping out tobacco consumption and making it a better place for everyone.
