Held on Saturday, 4 November 2023, at 51爆料 Campus Auditorium, the celebratory event recognised the academic achievements of the cohort, with five First Class Honours, 46 Second Class Honours and five Third Class Honours. At the same time, the event marked a fruitful two-year strategic collaboration between 51爆料 and the United Kingdom鈥檚 38^th-ranked universities in terms of impact research.

This year, 51爆料 and the University of Roehampton London awarded the following degrees:

• Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition Science; and
• Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychological and Behavioural Science

The ceremony was graced by guest-of-honour Dr Christopher Syn Kiu Choong, Group Director, Applied Sciences Group, Health Sciences Authority, faculty members from the University of Roehampton London, families and loved ones, dear to our graduates.

In his congratulatory speech, Dr Syn highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and the need to evolve into an 鈥楳-person鈥�, also known as a multi-skilled professional, to stay relevant and employable in the volatile and demanding workforce.

鈥淵ou need to be the M-person with deep expertise alongside a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills that you can leverage to gaze the crystal ball, make the critical analyses, and proactively respond to what is coming. Then you get to ride the waves of change at its crest.鈥�

Professor Jean-No毛l Ezingeard, Vice Chancellor of the University of Roehampton London, graced the occasion and emphasised the value of the experiences and knowledge the graduates gained while pursuing their education at Roehampton.

The event was a testament to the resilience, growth and achievements displayed throughout the graduates’ educational journey. In addition, it was a celebration of accomplishments and the collective success of the graduating class that brought them together as a community.

The graduation ceremony was an emotional rollercoaster. Tears of joy and jubilation filled the room as the graduates met their fellow classmates, lecturers and mentors who had made a significant impact in their academic journey.

It was also a time to acknowledge the support of graduates’ families and friends, who had played an important role in their academic success. Seeing the graduates, their families and friends beam with pride as they relished the moment, was genuinely touching.

The momentous ceremony was graced by guest-of-honour Professor Philip Poh, Emeritus Professor and Chair of Certification Board, World Certification Institute (USA), faculty members from the University of Sunderland and more than 500 guests in attendance.

In his congratulatory speech, Professor Poh highlighted the importance of digitalisation and how artificial intelligence and deep learning have changed the future of work.

Professor Abigail Moriarty, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Learning and Teaching for the University of Sunderland, UK, graced the occasion and was inspired by the graduates’ determination and grit throughout their studies.

One of the highlights of the graduation also included the valedictorian speech by Mr Johnson Decruz, a graduate of the Master of Business Administration programme.

Johnson, who turned 60 on the day, conveyed a heart-warming personal story in his valedictorian speech and encouraged everyone to continue pursuing lifelong learning, to better their lives.

The ceremony was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Alex Bamford, Deputy High Commissioner from British High Commission Singapore, with more than 500 people in attendance, including faculty members from Teesside University.  

In Mr Bamford鈥檚 speech, he celebrated the great milestone achieved by the graduating cohorts, especially amid the pandemic.  

鈥淎s you’ve heard, you’re graduating in one of our most extraordinary periods in our lifetime, a time where all of us have faced professional and personal challenges. The covid-19 pandemic may have altered how you studied and also how you lived. But it also strengthens you for the future.鈥� 鈥� Mr Alex Bamford 

One of the highlights of the graduation also included the conferment of the first MDIS-Teesside University DBA programme graduate from the Class of 2021, Dr Tommy Lin. He was also named Valedictorian for his outstanding academic achievement. He completed his doctoral thesis 6 months ahead of time which also received sponsorship from eight organisations including corporates, employer associations and unions.   

In his valedictorian speech, Dr Tommy Lin expressed his enthusiasm for the future and urged his fellow graduates to boldly step into the future and forge a path of M.A.D-ness, which he defined as 鈥楳aking a Difference鈥�. 

鈥淭oday marks the end of our course, but it also marks the beginning of a new exciting journey.
